Payments & Refunds
Understand Stripe payment routing, campaign contribution refunds, disputes, and FreeFund PRO refunds.
Payment & Refund Policy
Campaign contributions
Contributions are generally final after Stripe confirms payment and routes funds to the organizer. Refunds may be considered for duplicate charges, unauthorized transactions, technical errors, proven fraud, campaign cancellation before use of funds, or where required by law. The organizer is primarily responsible for contribution refunds. When FreeFund approves an assisted refund, the refund is created on the organizer’s connected Stripe account. Submitting a request does not guarantee approval.
Disputes and chargebacks
Cardholders retain rights provided by their card issuer and applicable law. FreeFund may share transaction and campaign records with Stripe, banks, organizers, and authorities to respond to disputes. A dispute can reduce campaign totals and may result in campaign suspension.
FreeFund PRO
PRO is a one-time digital-access purchase. PRO refunds may be issued for duplicate or unauthorized charges, failure to provide purchased access, or where required by law. If the PRO purchase is fully refunded, PRO access may be removed. Optional tips are generally nonrefundable except where required by law or included in a corrected transaction.
Taxes
Personal crowdfunding contributions generally are not charitable tax deductions. Crowdfunding proceeds may be taxable depending on the facts. Organizers and supporters should keep records and consult qualified tax professionals.
